The Montgomery County Workhouse houses prisoners that have been sentenced for misdemeanor
crimes (those up to one year) occurring in Montgomery County. The facility holds
up to 144 male inmates. Many serve time by reporting for confinement on Friday evening
and are released Sunday afternoon after serving 48 hours straight.
A number of prisoners are given the opportunity to work off a portion of their time
on a road work crew. This is a funded project where these inmates are used to clear
the right-of-way and pick up litter along the road. This program allows the inmates
to contribute to the community while still in custody.
