The Patrol Division is the backbone of the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. The
division is staffed by a Lieutenant, three Sergeants, four Corporals, and 27 Deputies
covering three shifts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. 5 full-time
K9 handlers also staff the division.
Duties of the Patrol Division are to assist, protect and serve. The Division is
responsible for patrolling the County's 543 square miles, which consist of 1,446
miles of streets, roads, highways and interstate. Patrol responds to any emergency
calls for service, any reports of criminal activity, any type of accident, or natural
disaster. The division is also an integral part of Tennessee Homeland Security District
Seven. The Patrol Division provides assistance to any federal, state or local agency.
The Patrol Division has the task of responding to calls to which no other agency

The five Canines assigned to the Division perform Criminal Apprehension, Narcotics
and Bomb Detection duties. The Special Enforcement Unit primarily patrols the major
corridors traveling to and through Montgomery County. The unit is responsible for
the apprehension of fugitives, stolen vehicles, drug traffickers, and suppression
of crime in problematic areas. The Reserves Division augments the Patrol Division.
