Marriage Records (County Clerk)
Bound books from 1838 through June 1929 (Books 1-48) and the Loose records from 1866 through March 2007 are available at the Archives.
Early records give name of groom, bride, bondsman, official, date of license and marriage. For a short period of time, the bound records include a long form with additional information. Book 10, 25 April 1881 to Book 11, 28 August 1884.
Official copies for recent marriages can be obtained from the County Clerk's Office or the Tennessee Vital Records Office. The state's order form is available at the Archives.
Birth Records (County Clerk)
Birth Certificates in Tennessee are not public records and must be requested through the Tennessee State Vital Records office for the years 1914 to the present. The Archives has Montgomery County birth records from 1908 through 1912. There are NO birth records for 1913. However, there are some delayed birth certificate orders in the county records. These are filed alphabetically by the child's surname; there is a complete name index of parents and affiants.
Death Certificates
The Archives has a statewide index for 1908 through 1912. There are NO death certificates for 1913. For the years 1914 through 1925, the death certificates are filed chronologically by county and are on microfilm in the Archives.
From 1926 through 1954, death certificates are available at the state level. Official copies can be ordered from Tennessee State Vital Records office; unofficial copies can be obtained from TSLA for a nominal copy fee. Death records in Tennessee are confidential for 50 years but interested parties or family members can request copies through the Vital Records office.
