Why Should I Vote and How Can I be an Informed Voter?
Voting is the heart of our strong democratic system. Therefore,
you must vote:
- To express your opinion on issues and the people who will represent you
in our government.
- Voting shows support for our democratic form of government. It ensures
your voice is heard.
- Many lives have been lost for our right to vote. Voting ensures the struggle
was worthwhile.
In order for a voter to know how issues and the
people making our laws relate to them, the voter must be informed. Some
of the ways to be an informed voter are:
- Use different sources for information, such as newspapers, magazines,
TV, and radio stations. You can get information from political parties
and the candidates.
- Follow the issues throughout the year and follow up on them when the
election is over.
- Meet the candidates and ask questions.
- Talk with others. Exchanging ideas and opinions with others may help
strengthen your voting decisions.
