Montgomery County Awarded $945,000 Grant for Bridge Renovation
Montgomery County Rail Authority was recently awarded a TDOT Enhancement grant from the State of Tennessee. At the August 25th announcement, Governor Phil Bredesen awarded $945,926 for the mitigation and renovation of the R.J. Corman Railroad Bridge. Montgomery County Mayor Carolyn Bowers and City of Clarksville Mayor Johnny Piper were both on hand for the announcement. Both Mayors acknowledged Ed Davis, Director of Administration for Montgomery County and Fred Mudge, Chairman of the Board for R.J. Corman for their hard work on this grant.
The grant requires some local match money, and will be split between three agencies. The City of Clarksville and Montgomery County Government will each pay five percent and R.J. Corman will pay 10 percent. Montgomery County’s grant was the fifth largest awarded out of 39 announced by the Governor. No timeline has been determined for the project, but officials will meet next week to determine a plan.
